License and terms of usage

We hope that the materials provided here would be helpful for others. Thus, we share all the lesson materials openly, and also our source codes and lesson materials are openly available from GitHub. There, you can also find information how to use the materials and modify them to your own purposes. However, if you modify the lesson materials we wish that you would also share your materials openly e.g., on GitHub, where everyone could benefit from your work in a similar manner as we provide these materials for you. We also welcome collaboration and ideas of how to improve the materials on these pages. Contact us via email (General info) or fork the docs on GitHub.

Our materials and code snippets are licensed as explained below:

Instructional materials

All the instructional material is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence . See the full licence.

In short as a human-readable version of the license:

You are free to

  • Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

  • Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material

for any purpose, even commercially. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

Under the following terms

  • Attribution - You must give appropriate-credit[^credit], provide a link to the license, and indicate1 if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

  • ShareAlike - If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same-license2 as the original.

No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological-measures3 that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Notices

You do not have to comply with the license for elements of the material in the public domain or where your use is permitted by an applicable exception4 or limitation.

No warranties are given. The license may not give you all of the permissions necessary for your intended use. For example, other rights such as publicity5, privacy, or moral rights may limit how you use the material.

Code snippets / software

Except where otherwise noted, the example programs, code snippets and other software provided by the Introduction to Geodynamic Modelling course are made available under the GNU GPLv3 license. Please refer to the full license for details.

Indicate changes: In 4.0, you must indicate if you modified the material and retain an indication of previous modifications. In 3.0 and earlier license versions, the indication of changes is only required if you create a derivative.
